Program Overview

The Journey to Fight Cancer Begins With a Step.

This history of fighting cancer is the accumulation of small steps of successes and failures by doctors and researchers across time and around the world. At Little Green Book, we want to continually push the boundaries of patient diagnosis, treatment, care and outcomes, and we hand-pick projects and initiatives that we believe will make a true difference in this ongoing fight. Read below for more information about programs we support.

MERIT Program

Breast cancer treatment can be such a personal and emotional journey for families, as it has been for the founders of Little Green Book.

The MERIT Program is trying to improve breast cancer detection by conducting a clinical cohort of more than 10,000 people to study potential improvements in mammography-based breast cancer screening by adding blood biomarkers and applying advanced mammography techniques.

The program is currently seeking additional participants to join the cohort and help us improve breast cancer screening. It is also welcoming additional donors who may not be able to participate but would like to support it with a tax-deductible financial gift.

Integrative Medicine Program

We’re always looking to sponsor or support projects that improve the patient experience. Early on, we teamed up with Dr. Lorenzo Cohen, head of MD Anderson’s Integrative Medicine Department, and began a long-term association with his department.

The first was a 10-year (and counting) effort called “Changing the Culture Initiative” whose goal is to better identify patients who were experiencing high levels of distress related to their illness, and to intervene and provide supportive services to those individuals.

Most recently, we began promoting Dr. Cohen’s book Anticancer Living, which details how people can reduce cancer risk and support treatment by focusing on six key areas of health and wellness.
